Design by the Book

What a magnificent idea. Design by the Book is a cool collaborative project between design*sponge, one of my favorite blogs (yes, I’m basically stealing this whole post from Hello, Elements, but seriously design*sponge is a favorite blog of mine, too) and the New York Public Library.

The premise is five Brooklyn artists (a glass blower, graphic designer, letterpress printer and textile designer) are invited to go to the New York Public Library to find inspiration. Their journey from exploration and discovery through final project will be documented.

The above video is the debut video in the series where we meet the artists. There’s more to come that I look forward to watching. I seriously appreciate art so much, I just wish I had the money to support it as well.

Dolled up for Christmas

I’m a bit fond of this illustrator, Kristen Ulve, I found. I’m assuming she’s way popular considering the resume she has. Anyways, I found some cute holiday works of hers. Enjoy the cutesy girlieness of it all (to all the dudes out there…I’ll post something for y’all later).

Beer Cheer

I just thought my brother, and a few others, would enjoy:Though I don’t really drink (just light and socially), I don’t think I would mind this creation in my house for decoration. What do you think? Note: Not particularly good for those with kittehs!

Merry Christmas

I hope your day was filled with holiday cheer.
I’m a little short on words right now, will you kindly settle for some silly macbook photos?

How do you like my new necklace my panda sent me for Christmas? I absolutely LOVE it! It’s a camera! She got it in some LA flea market. I miss her so much, it’s even hard to explain.

I should be sleeping seeing as I have to wake up at 5:00 in the morning to go to work, but I figured I stay up and post some pictures. After this, I will get cozy in my bed and start reading this new book my mom got me for Christmas called “Wesley the Owl” (my mom and I have a thing for owls). Its a true story about a girl and her owl and since I’ve always been partial to true life Dog Stories, maybe Owl Stories will find a place in my heart, too.

Christmas Eve

I had a rough day, but everyday has it’s end…’twas nothing my puppy or kittehs, nor ma or pa couldn’t mend.

Strolling merrily along my way

Christmas eve is officially here,
and I just realized it at this very moment, it is currently so.
Years go by way to fast,
but I’ll continue walking ’cause I have so many a’ places to go.

La la la, Jiscilla can't sleep

…la, la, la, Jiscilla can’t sleep. (Also, I can’t stand people who refer to themselves in the third person, but apparently I do it ALL THE TIME! Somebody smack me.) I really don’t know what my problem is. I have the most active mind ever. By the time I’m 50, I think my brain will shut off completely. Matter of fact, I think it’s malfunctioning right now. I, once again, have a super huge migraine. Can’t take my migraine pills because the caffeine in them will keep me up and can’t take any Tylenol PM because I have to wake up in less than 4 hours. Probably typing on my bestie, lil’ Macdaddy Macbook, doesn’t help. I’d write about “Christmas time” cause I have some things to say, but really, my head just hurts too much. Therefore, I’m gonna go curl up with my puppy, count some falling snowflakes in my head, and attempt some Z’s. Goodnight world.

Lots a' single ladies out there

This little girl inspired me to post a video of what my old dance class has been up to. This is Luam’s spin on “Single Ladies.”

Personally, I’m a fan of this performance.

Somehow, it’s just so much better watching dudes do it.

Bash Recap

The children waiting by the fireplace for Santi Claus to come

Curbside all ready to go.

We got Parker’s special homemade eggnog

…and Meik’s brought his special store-bought cider

Senile auntie Jiscilla came to visit

Both mudballs and Gurj’s head gets nomed

We sung a song for Tyler’s birthday

…and celebrated Hanukkah, too!

Good friends, good tidings, good cheer!

Me: Daerest curbside…Sorry for literally rolling outta bed this morning.
Kells: Ok, jiscills. Honestly, that was one of the funniest things i have ever seen in my life.
Me: I literally almost just peed my pants just thinking about it again
Christy: can you pls describe the fall out of bed?! i was laughing to myself at the mental pic i got
Me: omg…I’m still confused on how I did it. My feet were legit in the air and the covers came w me pulling them off erica and kels….AND it was totes in slow motion…funniest moment of my life.
Christy: so this was like a backflip? how did you go from the laying position to the tumbling position?
Kells: picture this.
you’re sleeping next to jiscilla, and all of the sudden her phone alarm goes off. she is in the middle, between me and erica. she sits up and rolls forward, reaching for her phone at the end of the bed, and proceeds to just continue to roll, do what i *think* was a complete somersault off the end of the bed, and take all the covers with her. i can only assume thats what happened, because all i saw was a big pile of covers and jiscilla’s little legs go flying into the air, accompanied by the faint sound of jiscilla saying “eep!” erica and i look at each other, coverless, and totally confused.
Thats the general scenerio. i wish i had it on tape just to play over again when i need a laugh.
Christy: HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH AMAZING….TEARS.IN.EYES. OMG IM DYING. i wish so badly i couldve seen that.
Erica: HAHAHAHAHA kelly pretty much nailed it. also add in that we had been drinking heavily the night before so confusion was at an all time high.

Annual BK Holiday Bash

We love our parties, and the Annual BK Holiday Party is no exception. It’s one of the best of the year. We get eggnog, mudballs, and dance parties, like whoa! This year…we add kittens and Jesse Johnson (senile auntie Jiscilla will be in full-on protection mode, so don’t you dare treat lil miss Eko and Keanu Robot anything but the best…feel free to treat Jesse like crap, though. Jus kidding, I’ll throw shii down if anybody mistreats any of ma buds…beware, unicorns have magical powers.)

It’s this Saturday night, so I expect to see everyone’s pretty faces. Come dressed to impress in your holiday best, and feel free to be the Santa to my Claus. Obviously, there will be a photobooth.

Some photos from the past festivities:

Board games and dance parties…a perfect match.

Dagger and I with our own makeshift macbook photobooth. I stealz voices like Ursula to Ariel. Haha Hehe HaHa Ho.

Flying mudballs…no really, there were flying mudballs. (Please note these guests have not been invited to back and take that as a forewarning…unless you’d like to scrub some 30ft high walls.)

It’s obviously love. Curbside love.

The infamous rooftop green pee chair

I was Mrs…and he was Grampy Claus.

Hipster pups rock mohawks for X-mas.

Head cases: Kel’s Kisseltoe and my purple roots.
